The education sectors are waiting for the end of the second term of the schools to appoint 2000 new Kuwaiti teachers who have graduated from various colleges in Kuwait at Kuwait University and Public Authority for Applied Education and Training. As soon as the second term ends, the current expatriate teachers will be dismissed and replaced by Kuwaitis, the officials said.
Officials also informed that the number of expatriate teachers to be dismissed depends on their specialization in each field. Subjects handled by Kuwaiti teachers awaiting enrollment, total number of teachers required for a subject in an institution, etc., are decided upon in this regard. Apart from this, another list of expatriate administrators, including 143 administrators working in the reward system department, has also been prepared for dismissal, reported Kuwait Times.

The Ministry of Education is dismissing expatriate teachers and department heads as part of the government’s proposal to replace expatriates with Kuwaiti nationals. This is in the context of the government intensifying measures to create employment opportunities for its own citizens and exclude foreign employees as part of the nationalization policy. About 3.4 million of Kuwait’s total population of 4.6 million are expatriates. In a situation where the propaganda that foreigners are taking away the opportunities of the natives is strong in the country, the indigenization of Kuwait has been strengthened.
