Since the beginning of 2022, about 800 people have suffered from dog bites in the Tomsk region. Almost all animals had owners. This was told to RIA “Tomsk” by the head of the regional department of veterinary Valery Tabakaev.
Earlier, Alena Mozheiko, head of the True Friend trapping service, which works in Tomsk on a municipal order, told reporters that almost always people are attacked not by homeless people, but by domestic dogs, which the owners let out for a walk without supervision.
Mozheiko believes that the current law in Russia on the responsible treatment of animals needs to be adjusted in terms of punishment for “self-walking”.
The agency adds that the Tomsk authorities planned to build a municipal shelter in the city for stray dogs, including aggressive ones, where they will be kept for life, since euthanasia is prohibited by federal law from 2020. The cost of construction was estimated at 122 million rubles, and the development of the project – 5.5 million rubles. Then it was decided to wait for a typical project.
