The Abu Dhabi Modern Sailing Team is competing in the Ora Modern Sailing Cup (Optimist Class), which starts today on Lake Lagarda in Italy and will last for three days with the participation of 500 sailors from 30 countries.
This season’s Cup brings together the best sailors in the Optimist categories from all over the world to compete for the top spots. The venue is one of the best places to train for modern sailing competitions, and also to learn about the capabilities of the teams and sailors.
The Abu Dhabi team had arrived in Lagarda since August 2nd, where it held a special training camp attended by its cadres: Abdullah Al Zubaidi, Dhiyab Al Muhairi, Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Hamad Al Muhairi and Zayed Al Hosani.
The team will continue its camp until the 20th of this month, and through this camp it aims to develop and enhance the sailors’ talents and shape their skills in a better way, in addition to giving them the opportunity to participate in a suitable and appropriate atmosphere to learn the best skills for sailing and controlling the modern sail.
For his part, Salem Al Rumaithi, General Manager of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, said: “The young talents embraced by the Abu Dhabi Modern Sailing Team are capable of presenting high and strong levels in the 29th edition of the Aura Modern Sailing Cup.”
He added: “Our main goal is always to prepare the talents in our team and prepare them for future participation and representation with sailing teams. The current Optimist category is also a very important category, as it is the first category of modern sailing, where sailors later move to the larger and Olympic categories.”
Salem Al Rumaithi also praised the Aura Cup, stressing that it is a true standard for learning more about the skills and capabilities of the currently participating Emirati team, which aspires to present its best levels in the tournament.
