The actor Ryan Grantham pleaded guilty in March 2021 to murdering his 64-year-old mother, shot in the back of the head in 2020, while she was playing the piano at her home in Squamish, Canada.

At the beginning of the hearing last Monday for the murder of his mother, the figure of the series “Riverdale” revealed that his second victim would have been none other than the prime minister of that country,Justin Trudeau.

The court heard the interpreter of “Jeffrey Augustine”, from the aforementioned youth series, admit that he had rehearsed the murder. He even said to have recorded videos afterwards. In these images, presented before the British Columbia judge, he talks about the shot he made to Barbara White, his mother, and shows her body.

After committing the crime, the 24-year-old actor went in search of his second victim armed with three pistols, ammunition, Molotov cocktails, camping supplies and a map with directions. The confessed murderer drove to the east of the North American country with the idea of ending Trudeau’s life.

In that line, Grantham justified the cold-blooded act against his mother by saying he “didn’t want her to see the act of violence he was about to commit.” keeping in mind the Canadian political leader.

According to local media CBC, Grantham left Squamish a day after the homicide with the body inside the vehicle. She drove nearly 50 hours to Hope County, where she stopped to think. In this place he made the decision not to continue with his so-called “mission”.

That night he turned himself in to the Vancouver Police and was notified that he could be found guilty of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.

In the hearing held in previous days, the prosecutor Michaela Donnelly presented two psychiatric reports on the mental state of the young actor, in which she realizes that Grantham was going through an intense period of clinical depression.

Donnelly also clarified that the victim suffered from cancer. “However, Mr. Grantham was looking to save his mother from something he was going to do (…) That is something other than altruism.”

Along these lines, the prosecutor insisted that what was committed was nothing more than a “heartbreaking breach of trust”, since “It was about a mother who loved her son very much and had no reason to be afraid of him.”

On Wednesday, the last day of the hearing, Granthman revealed his feelings for his mother: “I cannot explain or justify my actions. I have no excuse. It hurts me to think how much I wasted my life. In the face of something so horrible, asking for forgiveness seems so useless. But from every fiber of my being, I feel it. Someday, if I ever get out of prison, I hope to continue on this path of improving myself.”

Grantham was charged with first degree murder but pleaded guilty to second degree four months ago. Meanwhile, his defense tries to reduce the sentence. For her part, Judge Kathleen Ker reserved the final verdict for a future date.
