Osasuna continued its adventure in the Spanish Football Cup competition and reached the final match for the second time in its history, drawing with its host Athletic Bilbao 1-1 after extension (0-1 original time) on Tuesday in the Basque derby in the semi-final second leg.
Osasuna settled the first leg in his favor with a single goal scored by Moroccan international Abdel Samad Al-Zalzouli in the 47th minute. Athletic Bilbao succeeded in imposing an extension on Osasuna when he ended the original time in his favor with a single goal scored by Ghanaian international striker Inaki Williams with a header in the 33rd minute.
And at a time when the two teams were close to resorting to penalty kicks to decide the first qualifier to the final match, substitute Pablo Ibanez succeeded in scoring the equalizing goal and qualifying for Osasuna in the 116th minute with a right-handed shot.
Osasuna knocked out the defending champions, Real Betis, with a penalty shootout, and its neighbor Seville, after extending the eighth and quarter-finals, respectively, noting that it also needed the two additional times to overcome the hurdle of Nastic Tarragona from the 32nd round.
It is the second time that Osasuna has reached the final match of the cup competition, after the first in 2005, when it lost to Real Betis 1-2 after extension.
Barcelona will meet its arch-rivals Real Madrid on Wednesday at the “Spotify Camp Nou” in the second leg of the second semi-final match (1-0 in the first leg).
