San Francisco. After rolling out the ability to make payments to businesses within chats in India and Brazil, Meta-owned WhatsApp is now rolling out the service to users in Singapore.
Stephen Kasriel, Head of Commerce & Financial Technologies at Meta, announced on Twitter on Tuesday, “Atdate WhatsApp Singapore users can now pay local businesses for goods and services seamlessly and securely within WhatsApp chats. “
According to TechCrunch, Meta has partnered with Irish-American financial services and SaaS company Stripe to launch the facility in the region.
WhatsApp has built this payments feature with Stripe Connect and Stripe Checkout solutions, allowing in-app payments to be made both online and offline.
The report added that customers can pay businesses in Singapore with a credit card, debit card or the Penao Funds Transfer System.
“Most people I know in Singapore use WhatsApp to chat with each other,” said Sarita Singh, regional head and managing director for Southeast Asia at Stripe. Pay local businesses as well. The speed and convenience of payments through WhatsApp will help businesses expand their revenue streams with new channels and reach a wider customer base.”
According to Meta, the feature to accept payments through WhatsApp is only available to a few businesses at the moment, but according to the report, the company plans to expand the availability to more merchants in the coming months.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp has announced that users will now be able to use the same WhatsApp account on more than one phone through its multi-device login feature.
Users can now link their phone as one of four additional devices.(IANS)
