The Italian club Roma confirmed, on Thursday, that its coach, Daniele De Rossi, who replaced Jose Mourinho on a temporary basis last January, will remain in his position next season.
The owners of the Italian capital club, Dan and Ryan Friedkin, said in a statement, “After meeting with Daniele De Rossi on Wednesday afternoon, we are pleased to announce that he will continue in his position as coach after the 2023-2024 season,” without indicating the duration of the contract.
The statement added, “Since taking charge of the team, he has had a positive impact on the club and has continued to write his exceptional story with Roma.”
De Rossi is considered one of the legends of Roma Club, where he spent most of his career (2001-2019), and he succeeded Mourinho at the beginning of this year with a temporary contract that expires at the end of the season at that time.
Roma were then ninth in the league. But it currently occupies fifth place and is on its way to qualifying for the next Champions League, especially since Italy is a strong candidate to obtain a fifth ticket to participate in the continental competition, according to the European Football Association’s classification.
Under the guidance of De Rossi, who had until then been coaching SPAL (2022-23), Roma won eight of their 11 league matches.
Roma will host Milan in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday, after winning the first leg 1-0 at the San Siro.
