Despite all the hype caused by artificial intelligence in recent months, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak does not see the potential of this technology with the same enthusiasm.
“People think that [a inteligência artificial] It’s like a person’s intelligence, which thinks in the same way as the brain. Forget that idea. Artificial intelligence is not like human intelligence at all”, said Wozniak this Saturday (2), during an event promoted by XP in São Paulo.
Artificial intelligence systems are trained to do searches of a multitude of data at a speed far above what humans are capable of presenting them in an organized way, but they do not have the same capacity for reasoning or even for replicating emotion. intrinsic to humans, defended the executive.
“We don’t really know how a brain works,” said the Apple co-founder.
An application to help drivers drive around the city, he exemplified, often does not have the ability to identify an unexpected event, such as a last-minute deviation from the previously established route.
He also cited ChatGPT and compared it to a journalist who raises a series of important information during the investigation work.

“ChatGPT can take a lot of information from the internet and format it into correct language that sounds super smart, but how do you know if the information is right or wrong, or what is relevant to the audience?” asked Wozniak.
The executive mentioned public cases of legal professionals who used information generated by the computer program in cases they were working on without making sure if it was reliable and ended up having problems when it proved to be false.
“Is artificial intelligence going to change our lives completely? No”, he said, adding that at the time of the explosion of the internet in the early 2000s, much was said about how life would be changed by the new technology, for a few years later a series of new tech companies break.
He also recalled the case of computers that beat consecrated chess players a few decades ago. “Is that intelligence? No, it’s just algorithms and formulas.”
Artificial intelligence is just the term that is currently in vogue, said a skeptical Wozniak, who warned, however, that the technology is a new weapon in the hands of criminals in search of internet user data to commit cyber crimes.
