Al-Ahly was crowned the Egypt Football Cup for the 38th time in its history, thanks to a goal from Hamdi Fathy in extra time that gave his team a 2-1 victory over Pyramids in the final of the 2021-2022 season at Cairo Stadium on Monday.
Moroccan Walid Al-Karti put Pyramids ahead in the 72nd minute with a header when he benefited from following Ahmed Sami’s header, which bounced off the crossbar after a cross kick from a free kick sent by Mohamed Al-Shaibi, to head the ball into the goal of Mohamed El-Shenawy, Al-Ahly goalkeeper and captain.
Two minutes later, Al-Ahly equalized when Mahmoud Abdel Moneim (Kahraba) touched the ball inside the penalty area, following a header from his colleague Yasser Ibrahim, which hit Ahmed Al-Shennawy, the Pyramids goalkeeper, and referee Amin Omar had to wait for the video assistant referee’s decision to score the goal.
In the last minute of the first extra half, Hussein Al-Shahat sent a long pass into the penalty area, which Fathi turned with a header into the empty net, after Al-Shennawi’s wrong exit from his own goal.
