World champion Sofiane El Bakkali renewed his condolences to the families of the victims of the “Al Haouz earthquake.”
Al-Baqali confirmed, in a post on his Instagram account, “Peace be upon you, today I confirmed that I will not participate in the Diamond League final in the American city of Eugene for reasons beyond my control.”
The world champion in athletics added, “Immediately after I confirmed that I would not participate, the first thing I did was participate in the large national campaign to donate blood to benefit the people of our country affected by the earthquake that our country experienced.”
He concluded, “Once again, I extend my sincere condolences and sympathy to all the families of the victims and a speedy recovery to all those injured.”
On the other hand, the number of deaths caused by the earthquake that struck many regions of Morocco last Friday night increased to 2,946 people, 2,944 of whom were buried, and the number of wounded reached 5,674 people, according to an updated toll from the Ministry of the Interior.
The Ministry of Interior revealed that the number of deaths reached 1,684 in Al Haouz Province, and 980 in Taroudant Province, while no new deaths were recorded in the rest of the provinces and provinces concerned.
Public authorities are continuing their efforts to care for the injured, shelter those affected, deliver food and health aid to them, and secure traffic on roads damaged by the earthquake, while at the same time mobilizing all the necessary capabilities to address the effects of this painful tragedy.
The National Institute of Geophysics had identified the epicenter of the earthquake in the “Ighil” rural community in Al Haouz Province, southwest of the city of Marrakesh, at a depth of 8 kilometers, with a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale.
