Al Dhafra Basketball Team coach, Syrian Ali Al Shatti, confirmed that the “Al Dhafra International” Basketball Championship, which will start tomorrow and will extend until September 1, represents the best preparation for his team for the local season that will start in the middle of next month.
Six teams are participating in the tournament: Al Dhafra, Al Wahda, Sharjah, Al Seeb of Oman, and the UAE and Armenia national teams.
Al-Shatti told Al-Emarat Al-Youm, “The basketball team began the early gathering and preparation phase last July, to raise the players’ readiness to participate in the (Al Dhafra International) Championship, which is hosted by (Al Dhana) Hall.”
He explained: “The club’s management’s keenness to host the international tournament comes within the framework of providing all means of support to the basketball team, as the tournament will be a good opportunity to interact with strong teams.”
He added: “The early preparation stages contributed to raising the players’ readiness from the technical and physical aspects, in addition to providing factors of harmony, especially with the new contracts, whether in terms of national elements or foreign professionals.”
Al Shatti pointed out that the “Al Dhafra International” provides an additional opportunity to reveal the extent of the harmony of the foreign professionals with the team’s aspirations for the new season, and said: “The team was reinforced with two American professionals who were signed under the “trial” clause, namely Baby Magnet in the playmaker position, and James Padgett in the pivot player position.”
He concluded: “We have great confidence in our players’ ability to perform at the expected levels and to invest the opportunity available to them to gain experience in strong matches.”
