More than one team was harmed by refereeing errors that affected the results of three matches in the second round of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup, currently being held in Kuwait, which prompted the UAE Football Association to issue an official statement, protesting the refereeing performance during the “White” loss to Kuwait. 1-2.
The UAE Football Association expressed its strong dissatisfaction with the serious refereeing errors, which it believes affected the outcome of the national team’s match with its Kuwaiti counterpart, which ended in favor of the hosts 2-1.
Qatar’s match with Oman witnessed a protest by Al-Anabi against the whistle decisions, specifically with the penalty kick from which Al-Ahmar scored the equalizer in the 20th minute.
The whistle decisions affected the match between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, with the whistle ignoring the use of the red card for two Yemeni players during the first half, after rough interventions that required administrative decisions.
For his part, the former international referee, Yacoub Al Hammadi, stressed that the arbitration in the first round was much better than the second round, in which the arbitration directly affected the results of the matches, specifically in the first group.
He told «Emirates Today»: “I agree with the Football Association’s statement regarding its objection to the whistle decisions in the Kuwait match, which directly affected the result of the match, as there was a crystal clear penalty kick in favor of Hareb Abdullah, and it was followed by the decision to expel Kwame after he received the card.” The second yellow, even though the game did not require any administrative decision.
He added: “The strange thing is that the (VAR) technique did not intervene in the two cases, and did not summon the Mauritanian referee, Dahan Beida, to review the two cases, and therefore (Al-Abyad) was directly harmed by those decisions.”
Al-Hammadi added: “The Qatari national team also suffered damage in its match against Oman, after the Iraqi international referee Muhannad Qasim’s decision to award a penalty kick against (Al-Annabi). The television replay proved incorrect, and therefore the two teams that lost in the second round, their loss was due to clear interference by Whistle.”
He explained: “Maybe the matter was less severe in the Saudi-Yemen match, although there were cases that required the Omani referee, Qasim Al-Hatemi, to show the red card on two occasions during the first half to the Yemeni players, but he was lenient in many of the decisions that almost caused the match to go out of control.” “His control, especially in the last minutes.”
He continued: “The referees’ committee in the Gulf Cup tournament must address these mistakes and ensure that they are not repeated in the third and decisive round to determine the qualifying parties. This requires them to choose the best referees, whether on the field or those who will be present in the (VAR) room, and provide the greatest amount.” Of justice for all.”
