Kalba goalkeeper, Sultan Al-Mundhiri, confirmed that the “Gulf 26” tournament in Kuwait revealed an important role for goalkeepers, by contributing to resolving the results of matches in an impressive manner, and they proved the saying: “The goalkeeper is half the team.”
He told Emirates Al-Youm: “The national team goalkeeper, Khaled Issa, excelled during the matches that the national team played, and he does not bear responsibility for any of the goals that he scored. As for Oman’s goalkeeper, Ibrahim Al-Mukhaini, he was able to create a new history for Omani football after saving a penalty kick from our national team player Fabio Lima, and leading Al-Ahmar to the semi-finals in a deadly time, in addition to making five decisive saves during the match, and he appeared technically impressive in the tournament. “I see him as a candidate to be the best goalkeeper in the tournament if the Oman team is able to reach the final or win the tournament.”
Al-Mundhiri continued: “The same applies to Bahrain’s goalkeeper Ibrahim Lutfullah, who valiantly saved his goal in his country’s matches against Saudi Arabia and Iraq after confronting seven decisive attacks. As for Yemen’s goalkeeper, Mohammed Aman, his contributions were significant to his country’s first historic victory in the Gulf Championships at the expense of Bahrain, and he was also decisive in confronting a large number of attacks in the three matches.
He concluded: “Iraqi national team goalkeeper Jalal Hassan did not appear remarkably well, but he cannot bear the negative results of the (Mesopotamian Lions) team, especially since the Iraqi net conceded five times.”
