The national athletics team player, Salem Al-Muqbali, won the silver medal in the shot put competition, as part of the competitions of the tenth edition of the Arab Junior Championship for boys and girls, hosted by the Saudi province of Taif, with the participation of 400 male and female players, representing 18 countries.
Al Muqbali (17 years old) achieved the UAE’s first medal in the championship, the day before yesterday, during the second day’s competitions, recording a new record for the country (16.22 meters), after a strong competition with nine players, after a training period of no more than a year, which began in December 2023.
Al-Muqbali stressed that the silver medal was the culmination of the great efforts made by the Athletics Federation to qualify and prepare them to participate in Arab and international championships, through camps and advanced preparation programs.
He pointed out that the competition was difficult with the presence of the best elements in the participating Arab teams, noting that the silver medal represents a great incentive towards more achievements for the players of the national team in the upcoming events.
