The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cycling Federation, Mansour Bouassiba, said that the World Cycling Championship in Switzerland, which concludes today, witnessed the historic participation of the national team’s rider in the youth category, Khaled Al-Naimi.
Bouasiba told Emirates Today: “Al-Naimi’s historic participation in the World Youth Championship in Switzerland is the first for the Emirates in the tournament since the founding of the Sports Federation in 1974, and it is certainly a new way for the player and his fellow riders to participate in foreign competitions.”
He added: “Al-Naimi’s presence among the group of internationally ranked players is considered a great gain, and it plays a role in giving him more experience.” The team is participating in the tournament with four riders: Mohammed Al Mutaiwee, Abdullah Jassim (U23), Khaled Al Nuaimi (Youth), and Safia Al Sayegh (Women U23).
Al-Mutaiwi had competed in the individual time trial race last Tuesday, in the general individual race yesterday, accompanied by Abdullah Jassim, while Al-Naimi competed in the individual time trial and road races, and Al-Sayegh concluded the women’s individual race, with the participation of the top seeds and the champions of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
