The Sharjah Handball Team achieved its first victory in the 27th Asian Championship for Champions Clubs, by defeating Al-Shabab of Bahrain with a score of (35-31), today, Saturday, in the first group competitions, at the conclusion of the championship group tournament currently held in the Qatari capital, Doha, and extending until November 23. Al-Sharjah snatched third place from the Bahraini youth and qualified together for the quarter-finals, accompanied by the Kuwaiti teams Al-Kuwait and Al-Rayyan of Qatar, who ranked first and second in the group, which was limited to four clubs, compared to the second group, which included five clubs: Al-Khaleej of Saudi Arabia, Al-Duhail of Qatar, Miss Kerman of Iran, and Sadab. Sharjah’s advantage was clear in the course of the Bahraini match, after it was able to end the first half in their favor with a single goal difference and a score of (17-16), then widening the difference during the course of the second half and deciding the match by (35-31).
In the quarter-finals, the Sharjah team is waiting for a difficult confrontation that will bring it together against the loser of the summit match of the second group, which brought together late this evening the Qatari Al-Duhail and Saudi Al-Khaleej teams, especially since the tournament system stipulated that the leaders of the two groups would meet in the quarter-finals at the end of the group stage with the two place holders.
