Peruvian actor and director Alberto Ísola directs his new play ‘Dolores o la felicidad’, by David Olguín, whose message, he defines, is quite complex. “It is a look and a warning at the different options that this world, this contemporary society, promises us about what happiness is. The author poses the idea that happiness is not there, that happiness is somewhere else and that perhaps looking for it is not really the most important thing,” he says.
This production, presented by the Faculty of Performing Arts of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) ), mixes mythological elements with contemporary ones, including characters such as the Fates, Greek goddesses in charge of weaving the destiny of humans, and a contemporary angel with a skeptical view of the current world.

What is ‘Dolores or Happiness’ about?
‘Dolores o la felicidad’ tells the story of Lola, a young woman who, after finding herself in a state between life and death, embarks on a deep search for happiness. Throughout her journey, the woman examines the various alternatives that contemporary society offers to achieve this much-desired state.
The work, which is set in a complex universe where the boundaries between different realities and times are blurred, is based on the dramaturgy of David Olguin who offers a postmodern and contemporary text that alternates between satire and humor.
In addition, Olguín addresses fundamental existential issues in an irreverent yet relevant way, offering the audience a unique perspective on Happiness and the challenges to achieve it .
