The name of Alex Brocca was heard again after the premiere of the film ‘Chabuca’. In that film, Ernesto Pimentel remembered the romance he had with the deceased dancer and from that moment on the public asked to know more about him. The popular choreographer Arturo Chumbe dared to make curious revelations about Brocca in a recent interview that astonished more than one follower.
Who was Alex Brocca and what did he die of?
Alex Brocca He was a well-known Peruvian dancer and choreographer who won the hearts of many during the 90s. His passion for art led him to study acting and dance. In that sense, Alex has participated in numerous theater productions and television programs. Brocca was also noted for his sentimental connection with Ernesto Pimentel.
The dancer died on September 29, 2004 due to respiratory complications caused by bronchopneumonia. In addition to this illness, Brocca faced a health situation already weakened by lymph node cancer and AIDS, the latter a challenge that he had handled with remarkable courage in the last years of his life.
His legacy, however, lives on through his book called ‘Song of pain’ , in which he described that his relationship with Pimentel was marked by moments of tenderness mixed with others of abuse. For example, it was mentioned how the TV host could be extremely affectionate and then distant.
Also, in one of the chapters, Alex related that after he was seriously injured during a class, Pimentel initially showed concern, but then became unconcerned.
It should be noted that Brocca’s book also explores his struggle with HIV and details the devastating moment he received his diagnosis, which profoundly changed his life.

Arturo Chumbe was a guest on the YouTube show ‘Ouke’ on April 17. In conversation with Carlos Orozco and Daniel Marquina, the choreographer was encouraged to talk about Alex Brocca and made a curious revelation about him.
“I know Alex Brocca because I did theater for children with Alex Otiniano and It was terrible (…) There were always older actors like César Vargas and ‘Titi’ Plaza who adored me, they were like my parents and they took care of me, they told me: ‘Be careful, child, with this one…'” were Chumbe’s words.
Then, Arturo revealed that he has not read Brocca’s book and that he did not know details of Alex’s love life: “We were not friends, I don’t know his intimacies (with Ernesto Pimentel).”
Finally, Chumbe referred to Alex’s performance at work: “I was just starting out, but I know that Alex Brocca was not a good dancer. . It was not good. I wasn’t good at singing or dancing or acting, I think. “That was talked about in the circle of professional dancers.”
