Spain’s 20-year-old Carlos Algaras, the number one seed, has made the tennis world look back after winning the men’s singles title at Wimbledon. In the final held the day before yesterday, Algaraz defeated Serbia’s Novak Djokovic 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. The match lasted for 4 hours and 43 minutes.
With this victory, Algaraz stopped Djokovic’s winning streak of 34 consecutive victories in the grass court Grand Slam tournament. Like Spanish legend Rafael Nadal, Algarz made his mark on both clay and hard courts. Due to this, Djokovic entered the field with the thought that he can easily defeat Algaraz and lift the trophy for the 8th time.
