Alvin Trigozo: "I Never Thought I'd Be On A Big Stage With Sonido 2000"

Given these two losses of the Amazonian cumbia, the absence of Cheryl Trigozo was added due to her work as a congressman. Now, the group is in the hands of “Aunt Mary”, the widow of the group’s creator, and her children Clint and Alvin, who has been part of it since 2015.

Before his presentation at El Crucero del Amor (SJL) and the Huaralino Internacional (Los Olivos) this Saturday, June 25, Alvin Trigozo Reategui indicates that he is very excited because it is the first time that he will perform on a big stage in the capital, since He never imagined being the main face of the group with his brother Clint. The 28-year-old says that he was comfortable with his role as administrative manager (and dancer, sometimes) and that he did not consider being a singer, but his desire to continue with the family project was more.

– How have you felt the reaction of the public with the return of Sonido 2000 to the stage?

It has been very difficult to reactivate ourselves again due to the two losses we had, which were two greats of the music of Eastern Peru. My dad, the teacher Tulio Trigoso, author and composer. My brother ‘Tulin’, king of the six strings, a great arranger and also a composer. As a result of them and the public that acclaimed us a lot, we have decided to reactivate ourselves again. With a little pain, but with the desire to continue this musical legacy.

– Do you feel the absence of Tulio and Tulin Trigozo during the show?

I know that my daddy and my brother are accompanying us on all our trips. They are our guardian angels. For them I put my hand on my chest and say: “I have to follow this, he can’t die. Sound 2000 has for a while”.

– After the departure of your father and your brother, the absence of Cheryl Trigozo is added due to her work as a congressman. Does she support them?

My sister is not in music now because of work, but she is always aware of us. She is supervising because she is part of the family and also because music runs through her veins. Although she does not accompany us with her presence, she always motivates us.

– Without Tulio, ‘Tulín’ or Cheryl, is it possible to preserve the essence of the group?

We continue with the same spark, with the same swing. We re-recruited almost all the musicians who have been with us for years. They already know the essence and touch of Sonido 2000. Recontra sounds like Sonido 2000. We’re still the same. The vocalist Leslie (Becorena), who takes my sister’s place because I can’t say she’s replacing her, is very professional, she resembles Cheryl’s voice, she has charisma. People think she is my family. What’s more, the guitarist also looks a bit rocker like ‘Tulín’. It’s not that we were looking for it, it’s pure coincidence.

– Is music new to you or were you already involved with the orchestra before?

This is not new to me. Since I was very young I have been in the logistics, administrative part. I’ve been at the ticket office, I’ve been a bartender and even a bottle rack. I have been 1,000 trades.

– Did you also inherit the artistic side?

I have always loved dancing. I entered support, I liked it and I stayed. Now my role in Sound 2000 is not just dancing, I’m also singing.

– But you already had that gift?

Yes, I sang, but not at my best.

– Are you taking singing lessons?

Yes, in a personalized way. Mr. Javier, who at some point shared the stage with my father, is advising me on many things regarding singing (…). I believe that what is inherited is not stolen. I have grown up in a musical world and music is in my blood. For me it is a challenge, I do not limit myself.

– Who made you the proposal to debut as a singer?

Just as I started to dance from one day to the next, I said: “Normal, I’ll do it, as long as it’s the family business. If it is to grow and improve, for whatever”. I’m going to be very honest with you I never thought I would be on a big stage with the group Sonido 2000. I always said: “I’m going to manage my brothers” (as a manager). I saw myself on that side, not on a stage.

– So, what is the most difficult for you to be the new face of Sonido 2000?

Well, dancing for me is normal, but grabbing the microphone is still like we’re there, we’re making progress. It will be a reason for you to see me this Saturday the 25th on the Cruise of Love and on the Huaralino. And if they come early, they eat a free juane. It’s for the first 300 people.
