Officials found that Amritpal had given a speech in a gurdwara in Rode village of Moga district. He commented that this is not the end at all. It seems that he may be guilty in the eyes of the courts, but he is innocent in the eyes of God. Amrit Pal Singh, who was an anonymous person until a year ago, came into the limelight with the death of Waris Punjab De Chief and actor Deep Sidhu. Declaring himself the chief of the organization, he wooed the youth with impassioned speeches.
Lovepreet Singh alias Toofan Singh, who is close to Amrit Paul, has been arrested by the Punjab Police in a kidnapping case. A large number of Amritpal’s followers attacked the Ajnala Police Station in Amritsar district on February 24 to oppose it. A case has been registered against Amritpal on the charges of inciting the youth to riot. Since then, the search for him continues. In this order, on March 18, the police came to know that he was attending a program in Jalandhar district. The police chased with 100 cars like a Hollywood movie. But, Amritpal escaped on a bike along with his close friend Papalpreet. Once again on March 28, an attempt was made to catch the duo in Hoshiorpur too but in vain.
There are allegations that Amritpal has links with Pakistan’s spy agency ISI. In order to escape from the police, it was revealed in the CCTV footages and photos that he had changed his disguise. Two videos and an audio clipping of Amritpal while on the run went viral on social media. A Khalistani sympathizer said in a video that he is not on the run and will come forward soon.
His hideouts were searched in Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Wanted posters have been put up in many railway stations offering a reward to those who provide reliable information about the whereabouts of Amritpal Singh. Amritpal’s close associate Joga Singh was arrested by the police on April 15 in Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib. According to the police report, Joga Singh, who has direct relations with Amritpal, arranged shelter and vehicles for him in Pilibhit. On 28 March Amritpal and his right-hand man Papalpreet were brought back to Punjab by Joga Singh.
Eight of Amritpal’s aides Daljit Singh Kalsi, Papalpreet Singh, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Varinder Singh Johal, Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwala, Harjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla were arrested under the National Security Act and sent to Dibrugarh Central Jail. Amritpal Singh, who was on the run for 37 days, finally surrendered after addressing the people at the Gurdwara in Moga. Punjab Police asked people to maintain law and order and not spread false news.
