Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria face a DANA that could prove catastrophic. Since recent days, the Mediterranean country has been suffering torrential rains, in a phenomenon that has also affected southern Italy.
Different national and international meteorologists have been warning about its dangers, warning of the “historical” conditions of this DANA, which multiplies what was suffered days ago in Spain.
This is also pronounced by the State’s top meteorologist and member of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), Juan Jesús González Alemán. In a tweet analyzing what is happening in Greece, he points out that “it seems that the barbarity that the models were intuiting is being fulfilled”, after the first hours of the phenomenon.
“More than 12 hours in a row with very efficient convective systems (storms) leaving abundant precipitation statically over the same area (they already have more than 800 l/m2). This animation is impressive. We are talking about middle latitudes!”, he adds, accompanying his words with an animated map of the area.
So far, the authorities have confirmed the death of eleven people among the three countries mainly affected, as well as the disappearance of several, among incalculable power cuts, destruction and problems for the daily life of many populations.
The prime minister and his cabinet have asked to take extreme precautions and avoid, as far as possible, leaving home, in a kind of semi-confinement until the situation improves.
The natural drama of ‘Daniel’ adds to a country that was seriously damaged by the fires in recent months in a large part of Greece.
