Public authorities are still continuing their efforts to care for the injured, shelter those affected, deliver food and health aid to them, and secure traffic on the roads that were damaged as a result of the devastating earthquake that struck the Kingdom.
A number of sectors were affected by the repercussions of this tragedy, most notably tourism, after the damage suffered in a number of Moroccan regions, especially Marrakesh.
In this regard, Al-Zubair Bouhout, an expert in the tourism field, said in his interview with Al-Jarida 24 that such a tragedy would have a major impact on the tourism field in our country, after various foreign media reported on this devastating earthquake that struck the Kingdom.
Bouhout confirmed that Marrakesh and Agadir represent 60% of tourism activity in Morocco, and all the tourists inside the hotels felt afraid, which prompted a large number of them to leave.
The expert added that canceling reservations or reducing the number of overnight stays, as a result of this tragedy, could lead to an economic and social crisis within the tourism sector.
The same speaker highlighted that hotels and tourist facilities provided tourists with all possible means to feel comfortable and reassured, after the earthquake, which reached 7 degrees on the Richter scale.
The same spokesman explained that the impact of the earthquake on the tourism sector will not appear at the present time, indicating that he received a set of data indicating that travel agencies and hotel establishments canceled a number of reservations related to the coming period.
Al-Zubair Bouhout added that the tourism sector in the Kingdom is currently experiencing a communication crisis, so the coming period requires the responsible authorities to communicate with major countries, by highlighting the safety of airports and hotel facilities and what is related to the structure of this field.
On the other hand, the number of deaths caused by the earthquake that struck many regions of Morocco last Friday night rose to 2,946 people by 7 p.m., 2,944 of whom were buried, and the number of wounded reached 5,674 people, according to an updated toll from the Ministry of the Interior.
The Ministry of Interior revealed that the number of deaths reached 1,684 in Al Haouz Province, and 980 in Taroudant Province, while no new deaths were recorded in the rest of the provinces and provinces concerned.
