How did Andrea Bocelli become visually impaired?
As predicted by the medical diagnosis, Andrea Bocelli had vision problems as he grew older, he had been diagnosed with congenital glaucoma, a name that encompasses a set of eye conditions, these produce an abnormality that raises the internal pressure of the eye and damages the optic nerve, causing blindness.
However, in 1970, when he was 12 years old, a bad blow to the head during a football match with friends, caused his condition to worsen and he was totally blind.
In the midst of that darkness, Andrea Bocelli used his love for music as a light and learned piano, flute and saxophone.
While studying law at the university, he took singing lessons with the Italian tenor Franco Corelli. It was his own talent that opened the doors and led him to the altar that he now occupies as a leading figure in classical music.
