The reason behind the accident is not clear. Initial information is that three bogies of the passenger train derailed due to the impact of the thunder. Rescue operation is in progress. The local administration has sought the help of the National Disaster Response Force. Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has instructed to send ambulances from nearby districts to the accident site.
The Chief Minister directed that treatment should be ensured for the injured and the officials should engage in emergency disaster management activities. The express train hit the track where the passenger train was stopped. It is reported that the people who were in the passenger train died.
It is not clear whether the signal error was the cause of the accident. The accident happened on Sunday around 7 pm. According to reports, the passenger train was stopped due to a broken overhead cable. A few months ago, 280 people were killed in a train collision in Odisha’s Balasore.

Assembly book festival with more than 300 events
More than 300 programs will be staged at various venues as part of the Kerala Assembly International Book Festival. The program will be held at the R Sankaranarayanan Thampi Members’ Lounge and three other venues set up in the Assembly premises. Book Festival is from 1st to 7th November. The official inauguration of the book festival was done by R. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will perform at Shankaranarayan Thambi Members Lounge on November 2. 240 book launches, 30 book discussions, panel discussions including ministers and literary and social cultural leaders, programs like ‘Meet the Author’ and ‘My Writing and Reading World’ featuring national and international personalities will be organized in the book festival. Programs like KLIBF Talks, Smriti Sandhya, Kaviyarang, Kavi Yum Jeevat, KLIBF Dialogues, Aksharshloka Sadas will also be held. Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi will be a distinguished guest at the KLIBF talk on the first day at 6 pm at venue 1. On the third day famous writer Perumal Murugan will participate in KLIBF talk. A program called Padmarajan in Memories will be held on Smriti Sandhya at Venue Two. Radhalakshmi Padmarajan, Ananthapadmanabhan and Joshi Mathew will share their memories of Padmarajan.
Shabnam Hashmi, Shashi Tharoor, Santosh George Kulangara, M Mukundan, Anand Neelakandan, Sachidanandan, Prabhavarma, Prof. V Madhusudanan Nair, Subhash Chandran, Meena Kandaswamy, Anita Nair, KR.
