New Delhi . Apple and Samsung accounted for nearly 60 per cent of the global tablet market in the January-March quarter, amid high demand and supply constraints. This information has been given in a new report. Apple iPadOS shipments (sell-in) fell 6 percent (year-on-year) to 15.8 million units in the first quarter of 2022, according to market research firm Strategy Analytics, with the worldwide market share climbing 1.7 percentage points to 39 percent .
Samsung led the Android market to 8.2 million units, down just 1.2 percent in the first quarter of 2022. Its market share rose 1.8 percentage points to 20 percent during the same period.
Amazon was behind Samsung, with a 1.3 percent annual decline and 3.7 million shipments. Its market share rose 0.8 percentage points to 9 percent.
For the second consecutive quarter, Microsoft entered the top 5 ranking globally in the first quarter of 2022, with 1.4 million tablets shipped at a 1 percent annual growth rate.
However, a better-than-expected start to 2022 may be short-lived. However, Covid sanctions in China, additional logistics and inflationary pressures, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine could all disrupt supplies.
Eric Smith, director of Connected Computing, said, “Apple’s recovery from last quarter’s supply constraints was just as impressive as they actually increased shipments sequentially. That’s unheard of in this business, but there are more disruptive factors at play.” With that, we should expect the unexpected.”
