San Francisco. Suppliers of Apple camera lenses reportedly face two risks – a weaker-than-expected second quarter of this year due to high inventory levels, and suppliers being unable to make a profit from periscope camera lenses. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo tweeted on Thursday that Apple camera lens suppliers face two risks: higher inventory levels, a weaker-than-expected Q2 2019 and suppliers unable to benefit from periscope camera lenses.
Since early 2020, when Kuo first mentioned the possibility, rumors have been circulating about the iPhone getting a periscope camera lens.
The analyst initially speculated that a periscope lens would be included in the iPhone 14 Pro, but this did not happen. Kuo has said that such a lens will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The component/lens inventory risk I previously predicted for the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max is now happening, Kuo said.
He also said that Taiwanese company Largan, the world’s largest supplier of smartphone camera lenses, is expected to be the sole lens supplier for this year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max periscope camera.
In addition, Kuo speculates that at which point the component price will be even lower as Apple suppliers begin supplying periscope lenses for the iPhone 16. Thus, there will be a negative impact on the lens suppliers.(IANS)
