San Francisco. As the race for generic AI intensifies, Apple is reportedly spending millions of dollars a day building several artificial intelligence (AI) conversational models.
According to a report by The Information, the tech giant is working on multiple AI models in multiple teams.
“One goal is to develop features that allow iPhone customers to use simple voice commands to automate multi-step tasks,” the report said late Wednesday.
The report states that this technology could allow users to ask the Siri voice assistant on their phone to create a GIF using the last five photos they took and text it to a friend.
Currently, an iPhone user has to manually program individual actions.
Apple’s AI chief John Giannandrea authorized the formation of a team four years ago to develop conversational AI, known as big-language models.
This was long before ChatGPT came into existence.
A chatbot is in the works that will “interact with customers using Apple Care” while another could make it easier to automate multistep tasks with Siri.
According to the report, citing sources, Apple’s most advanced LLM, known internally as Ajax GPT, has been trained on “over 200 billion parameters” and is faster than OpenAI’s GPT-3.5. is powerful.
The tech giant is yet to comment on the report.
Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed last month that the tech giant has been working on generative AI and other models for years.
Cook said Apple views AI and machine learning (ML) as fundamental core technologies.
“And they’re built into virtually every product we make,” Cook told CNBC.
“On a research basis, we have been researching AI and machine learning, including generative AI, for years,” Cook was quoted as saying.
