San Francisco. Thieves stole iPhones, iPads and watches worth $500,000 after breaking into an Apple Store inside a mall in the US. Thieves stole more than 400 electronics items from the Apple retailer at the Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, Washington state, according to police.
According to the Linwood Police Department (LPD), they entered by cutting through the bathroom wall of a nearby espresso machine store.
“Approximately 436 iPhones were removed in total,” said Maren McKay, LPD Communications Manager.
“In total, approximately $500,000 worth of merchandise was stolen and that’s iPhones, iPads, Apple watches,” McKay said.
The owner of the coffee machine store said he had never seen anything like this in five years of business at the mall.
Apple employees ‘didn’t know about the theft until the next morning.’
Meanwhile, the tech giant did not comment on the theft.
Brookfield Properties, the company that runs the mall, told Como News that this was an isolated incident.
According to the police, it appears to be a well-coordinated operation based on what they have seen from the surveillance video.
The report quoted McKay as saying, “The people were wearing masks, fingerprints were not found.”(IANS)
