San Francisco | Tech giant Apple is reportedly working on its own MicroLED display for use in devices such as the iPhone and Apple Watch.
The new screen is expected to appear on devices next year, after nearly five years of planning and development, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, The Verge reports.
Currently, the tech giant uses displays designed and manufactured by multiple vendors. For example, the OLED panels for the iPhone 14 models are reportedly made by Samsung, LG, and BOE.
In addition, Gurman said that the iPhone maker is expected to first ship its MicroLED screen to the Apple Watch, which is currently equipped with an OLED display.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, it was reported that the company is planning to bring MicroLED technology to its Watch Ultra with a bigger display next year.
In a note to investors, Jeff Pu, analyst at Haitong International Securities, said he expected Apple Watch sales to decline in 2023 due to a “lack of significant spec upgrades” and claimed that the 2024 Watch Ultra would instead be OLED. May adopt MicroLED panel.(IANS)
