Approval has been given for procurement of Electronic Warfare (EW) suite for MI-17 V5 helicopters.
The Defense Ministry on Thursday approved procurement proposals worth about Rs 7,800 crore. Apart from the Army, approval was given to purchase helicopter equipment, light machine guns, tablets and laptops etc. to increase the efficiency of the Airforce and Navy.
EW suites will be bought for Airforce
According to the information given by the Ministry of Defense, to increase the efficiency of the Indian Air Force, the DAC approved the purchase of Electronic Warfare (EW) suite for the Indian-IDDM class MI-17 V5 helicopters. This will increase the life of helicopters. The EW suite will be procured from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).
LMG and BLT will be purchased for the army

7.62×51 MM Light Machine Gun (LMG) will be purchased for the infantry.
The procurement of the ground-based autonomous system will facilitate tasks such as unmanned surveillance and delivery of ammunition, fuel and spares, as well as casualty evacuation from the combat zone. According to the ministry, the 7.62×51 MM Light Machine Gun (LMG) for the infantry LMG) and Bridge Laying Tanks (BLT) will be procured for the movement of mechanized forces.
Under Project Shakti, robust laptops and tablets will be procured from indigenous vendors.
The ministry said, “The induction of the LMG will enhance the combat capability of the infantry forces. With BLT, the movement of mechanized forces will be faster.
Approval has also been given for procurement of rugged laptops and tablets for the Army under Project Shakti, the ministry said. All these purchases will be made from indigenous vendors only.
Will increase the capacity of Navy helicopter
The statement said, “The purchase of weapons has been approved to increase the capacity of the MH-60R helicopter of the Indian Navy.”
