Are foreigners out? 25% of new contracts in Kuwait are for Kuwaitis

Kuwait City: The authorities have signed an agreement to provide employment to Kuwaiti workers in the private sector through projects and business agreements. The new decision was signed by the Minister of Public Works, Minister of Power and Water, Renewable Energy and Engineer Ali Al Moosa, Al-Qabas Daily reported. Ali Moussa called for an increase in the number of Kuwaiti employees to at least 25%.

He said the decision was taken to adopt a restriction on Kuwaitisation as an integral part of the contract documents of the Ministry of Public Works. He added that a committee would be formed to oversee the implementation of Kuwaitisation of each party in a manner that would not violate rules and regulations.

The decision is aimed at creating new job opportunities for Kuwaiti youth and reducing the burden on the Civil Service Commission as the number of job seekers increases. He said the aim was to increase the rate of national labor in the private sector and to achieve a policy of hiring Kuwaiti nationals instead of expatriates in contracts and ministries owned by ministries.
