The police appealed to the people going to the festival not to keep valuables and jewelery in locked houses and to keep them safe in banks. Anantapur district SP Fakirappa revealed that all kinds of pre-emptive measures have been taken by the police to control thefts in the wake of Sankranti.

Also, SP Fakirappa suggested that it is better not to post the information about the festival on social media. Those traveling in buses should take care of valuables and jewellery. Also, it is advised to refuse anything offered to eat by unknown people while travelling. He warned that thieves will make a sketch during the festival.
