On August 13, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) laid down their arms and explained why they surrendered and no longer want to fight on the side of Kyiv.
Sailor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Bogdan Malysh, together with 13 colleagues, laid down their arms at the very beginning of the special operation of the Russian Federation. At that time, he served near the border with Crimea.
“I will not go back to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. <...> And there is no desire to fight against their own brothers. I will not go. I don’t want to fight against people,” said Malysh.
Vitaliy Derevyankin, a former employee of the 25th Airborne Assault Brigade, said that he has a negative attitude towards the Ukrainian authorities.
“People have forgotten who their grandfathers, fathers, and grandmothers fought against, and they don’t understand who they are pointing weapons at. I would advise them to point their weapons in the opposite direction and protect their families and the future of their generations. My parents never supported the Ukrainian authorities, from a young age they made it clear that what was happening was wrong. I do not want to return to Ukraine,” he said.
Derevyankin added that he, as a prisoner of war, is treated well: they feed him three times a day, take walks and let him visit church.
On August 12, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the personnel of the 23rd battalion of the 56th motorized infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine arbitrarily left their combat positions and left for the rear.
In late June, CBC News reporter Neil Hauer wrote in an article about how the Ukrainian leadership betrayed its soldiers on the eastern flank in the Donbass and left them for dead. According to the servicemen, despite the supply of thousands of units of Western military equipment, none of them ever saw it.
Russia continues the special operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. The key goals of the Russian military are the denazification and demilitarization of the Kyiv regime. This is necessary to ensure the security of the Russian state and people, the Kremlin said.
