New Delhi: A plantation worker has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to arrange to get my wages.
The day before yesterday, the Republic Day celebration was held in Delhi. Some of the workers involved in the construction of the Central Vista project were given special admission tickets to participate in the ceremony. Sukh Nandan from Niwari district of Madhya Pradesh is one of those who got such special permission. Sukh Nandan said:
I have been lucky enough to see the Republic Day celebrations. I never thought I would get special permission to see this festival.
I saw Prime Minister Modi from up close. If I get a chance to talk to him, I will request that he get 44 days of wages from the last contractor I worked with. Prime Minister should take action to get my salary.
I have my work receipt and attendance register receipts. But the contractor refuses to pay the wages. I, my wife and 2 children live in a tent near India Gate.
According to the municipal administration rules, I should be paid Rs.21 thousand as wages for 44 days. But the contractor said that he would pay me only Rs.6000, so I brought his own brush cutting tool while I was working. I will give him his tool when he pays me. But he threatens to file a police complaint if the tool is not given. Government should help me in this matter.
This is what he said.
Jithen Upadhyay, a contractor, said, “It is true that there is a dispute with Sukh Nandan regarding wages. But I don’t think there will be arrears of wages of Rs.21 thousand. Apart from the brush cutting tool, he also has some plumbing tools. He must return it first. Then let’s talk about the wage issue,” he said.
