Arsenal goalkeeper’s extraordinary save… and Atalanta coach likens him to a “cat”

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini expressed his astonishment at the double and miraculous save made by Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya during the goalless draw the day before yesterday in the first stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Raya saved a penalty kick from Matteo Retegui in the 51st minute, and then followed up with a header from the striker, denying him the opportunity to open the scoring.

“He was like a cat,” Gasperini told reporters. “The first save was good, but the second one right after was fantastic.”

In turn, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta described Raya’s saves as “one of the best saves I have seen in my career.”

“He’s been exceptional this season. The two saves he made kept us in the game. That’s the truth,” he added. “I’m very happy that he’s at this level now.”
