Until now, section checks have not been adapted to the maximum speed during work. So you were not fined if you drove faster than allowed. As of today, yes and Utrecht has the scoop.
“By continuously maintaining the speed limit, road workers can do their work more safely,” the Public Prosecution Service reports. Where you could previously drive 100 kilometers per hour, you can now only drive 70 kilometers per hour. In this case, the work area is exactly within a section of the trajectory control. The system performs checks 24 hours a day.
This concerns work by Rijkswaterstaat on the Galecopperbrug, on the A12 and in the direction of Arnhem. The bridge will receive new cabling, among other things. The maintenance starts today and lasts until the beginning of 2024. Anyone who drives faster than 70 km/h on this route and in the period mentioned will receive a ticket regardless of the time.
Substantial fine for speeding work
This adjustment of the set speed of a section control system has never been done before, according to the Public Prosecution Service. It is not clear whether this will be a regular feature of all activities from now on. According to car week it seems that this step is only taken in the case of long-term work, such as the one on the Galecopper Bridge.
A possible fine at this location is also immediately a hefty one, because violations during road works are fined more heavily because of the danger to road workers. For example, 80 km/h in such a 70 zone costs 38 euros for correction, while driving 110 where you are normally allowed 100 ‘only’ results in a fine of 33 euros.
