Arrested in the case of rape of a minor girl in an ashram… Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu, who is already serving life in jail, has been found guilty in another rape case. A Gujarat court convicted him in a rape case about 10 years ago. In 2013, a woman complained that Asaram Bapu, who worked there at an ashram on the outskirts of Motera, Gujarat, had repeatedly assaulted her. She alleged that he threatened and raped her from 2001 to 2006. Cases were registered against Asaram Bapu under various sections.
The Sessions Court in Gandhi Nagar, which investigated this case, found Asaram Bapu guilty. Asaram’s wife was also found guilty by the court due to lack of proper evidence in this case. Along with them, six others were found guilty and sentenced. Charges have been registered against them under sections of illegal detention and rape. However, while this case was under investigation, one of the accused died in October 2013.
Earlier, Asaram Bapu raped a 16-year-old girl in an ashram in Jodhpur. When her mother brought the girl to the ashram saying that her mental health was not good, he took her to his room and abused her. The girl, who escaped from his clutches, told her mother about the incident and approached the police. Indore police arrested him. After Asaram Bapu was found guilty in this case, the police moved him to Jodhpur as per the orders of the court. He is serving sentence in Jodhpur Jail since 2018.
