Nagpur: Ashwin became the second Indian bowler to take 450 wickets in Test cricket by dismissing Australian Alex Carey in the first innings of the first Test against Australia. He also holds the record of being the only player to score 3000+ runs and take 450+ wickets in Test cricket in Asia.
Former player Kumble is at number one in India. He has taken a total of 619 wickets in 132 matches. Ashwin is also the second fastest player to reach this feat in fewer matches. This is his 89th Test match. Former Sri Lankan player Muralitharan had done this in 80 matches.
Ashwin is also second in the number of balls. He achieved this feat by bowling a total of 23,635 balls. McGrath, a former Australian player, achieved this record in Test cricket with 23,474 balls.
Ashwin, 36, made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2011. In the first match he took 9 wickets including two innings and won the man of the match award. He has won Man of the Series award 9 times in Test series.
