The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro League (AJP) announced the completion of preparations for the launch of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Professional Championship today at Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi, and will continue until the day after tomorrow, Sunday, with the participation of more than 1,700 male and female players from 50 countries, in the categories of juniors, youth, amateurs, professionals and masters.
The tournament will start with the junior and youth competitions, followed by the amateur and masters competitions tomorrow, Saturday, and will conclude on Sunday with the professional category matches.
The championship is one of the most important stations in the local sports season, as it provides an opportunity for players of all levels to test their abilities and develop their performance in preparation for upcoming events, most notably the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which will be held next November.
Yousef Al Batran, a member of the board of directors of the game’s federation, stressed that the championship is an essential station for measuring the players’ performance by facing the elite of world champions. He said: “Participation in such championships is a priority for champions everywhere, as it gives the winners of the first places classification points that bring them closer to winning a travel package to participate in the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, and enhances their chances of winning the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Award.”
“The championship is a major milestone for players seeking to advance their international rankings, with the winners of each category receiving 1,400 ranking points, which means they are one step closer to standing on the red carpet of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship,” said Rodrigo Valerio, Operations Director at the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Professional League (AJP). “The championship is distinguished by the prominent presence of champions from different continents, which makes the challenge even greater and raises the excitement to its highest levels.”
Brazilian Yuri Hendrix, ranked fourth in the world in the black belt category, expressed his aspiration for the competition, saying: “Our goal is to win and get on the podium, and I am determined to do everything possible to achieve that.”
For her part, Emirati player Marwa Al Hosani, ranked first in brown/black belt in Asia and the Middle East, stressed the importance of participating in such tournaments, saying: “Every tournament I participate in is a new opportunity to learn and develop. This tournament represents an important station for me to test my level and determine my readiness for upcoming events, especially the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship.”
