Assam will go to polls tomorrow for the first phase of 47 constituencies. Voting has been extended by an hour due to the spread of the corona virus. 264 candidates are in the fray.
Elections for 126 constituencies in Assam will be held in three phases on March 27, April 1 and 6. In the first phase, the BJP-AGP alliance, the Congress-led alliance and the newly formed Assam Jathiya Parishad (AGP) will face a three-way contest in all the 47 constituencies to be held tomorrow.
There are 264 candidates in the fray, including a total of 23 women candidates. Following the spread of the corona virus, voting began at 7 a.m. and was extended by an additional hour to 6 p.m.
The Federal Security Forces are working with the state police to prevent any untoward incidents during the polls. So far, the Central Army has not officially announced how many people are in custody. Police have been mobilized in addition to the tense polls.
