According to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), this planetary fragment is called 488453 (1994 XD), 2020 DB5. 488453 (1994 X D) will come closest to Earth on Monday, June 12. This asteroid, which is traveling at a speed of 77,292 kilometers per hour, will come close to Earth at 31,62,498 kilometers. A bridge-sized asteroid with a circumference of 1,500 feet made its last close approach to Earth on November 27, 2012. Coming back in 2030.
And, on the 15th of this month, the 2020 DB5 planetary fragment will come close to Earth. At that time the distance between the Earth and the asteroid will be 43,08,418 km. It is traveling at a speed of 34,272 kilometers per hour. The last asteroid that came close to the earth in 1995 will come again in 2048. However, the radius of both of them is more than 150 meters and scientists consider them dangerous. NASA kept an eye on their progress.
Jet Propulsion Laboratories’ Center for NEO Studies examines an inventory of near-Earth objects. These are close to the ground to detect any potential hazards early. NASA JPL classifies all space rocks larger than about 150 meters in size that come within 4.6 million miles of Earth. This classification helps in monitoring and predicting objects that pose a threat to our planet.
