An early goal from Jacob Ramsey and two more goals from Ollie Watkins in the second half gave Aston Villa a 3-0 victory at home to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday, moving Unai Emery’s side six points clear of the top four.
Ramsey ran towards a light pass with a header from Watkins to give Villa the lead in the 11th minute, after a wonderful cross from John McGinn.
Watkins added Villa’s second goal with a powerful shot from close range in the 64th minute, and scored his 11th goal in the last 12 matches, six minutes before the end, with a simple shot.
And Newcastle failed to pose any threat to the goal of Aston Villa, which has an organized defense, especially in the first half, despite the improvement in the performance of coach Eddie Howe’s team after he pushed Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson after the break.
The best chance for the guests came an hour before the start when Alexander Isak sent a shot that Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez saved with one hand, but Watkins put the ball into the net after the next attack directly, but the referee canceled the goal for offside.
Villa ranks sixth in the standings, with 50 points, three points behind fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, and six points behind Manchester United, third, and Newcastle, third.
