More than 40 wounded were taken to a surgical center in Kabul after an explosion occurred near the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Afghan capital. It is reported on Wednesday, January 11, by The Washington Post.
As a source of RIA Novosti previously reported, 21 people died as a result of the incident. Many of the victims worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture and Information of the interim government, and three members of the Taliban (the organization is under UN sanctions for terrorist activities) are also among the dead.
It is noted that the number of victims continues to grow. According to the director of emergency services in Afghanistan, there are so many wounded that the medical center had to install beds for patients, even in the kitchens and in the dining room.
UN Special Representative for Afghanistan Roza Otunbayeva visited the ministry earlier Wednesday, according to the newspaper. She was there, in part, to stress the importance of lifting the ban on education and the operation of Afghan women’s aid agencies in order to “halt an even deeper slide into instability and poverty.”

Reportedly, the explosion was carried out by a suicide bomber who attempted to enter the Foreign Ministry building. Despite the fact that he was noticed in time and stopped by the guards, he still managed to commit a terrorist attack.
