Paying 40% share, what should not be written..?
Center is ambitiously implementing the PMAY scheme. Under this scheme, the aim is to build 2 crore houses for the poor across the country. The Andhra Pradesh government has set a target of constructing 1.79 lakh houses by March 2024. However, under the PMAY scheme, the central and state governments are allocating funds in the ratio of 60:40.
Under the PMAY-G scheme, Rs. 1.3 lakh each while allocating funds.. in which the AP government has allocated Rs. 70 thousand is bearing. That is.. more than 50 percent funds. The argument of the AP officials is that the state government should not carry out any kind of campaign even while bearing the funds of 40 percent or more.
The Andhra Pradesh government had previously written to the Center asking that YSR be included at the end of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana scheme, along with the logo of the Center and the logo of the state government. However, the Union Rural Development Department rejected the proposal. It has been clarified that the guidelines given under the PMAY scheme should be followed strictly.
The Center has advised the AP government that they cannot put even the logo of the state government. Any changes will stop funding. Union Finance Secretary Somanathan explained that there are states that are paying more funds than Andhra Pradesh under this scheme.
The Government of West Bengal is implementing this scheme under the name ‘Bangla Awas Yojana’. Somanathan said that since 2022, funds from the center have been stopped for that state.
5300 crores from the center to the state due to the addition of just three letters. In addition to Rs.4,000 crore for this year, last year’s arrears were Rs. 1,300 crore has been withheld by the Centre. It seems that the YS Jagan government has agreed to remove the YSR name and AP brand altogether.
