What is ‘Partido en 2’, the new song from La Única Tropical, about?

The song tells the story of a person who suffers from the departure of his loved one. The lyrics reflect deep pain and the feeling of emptiness left by the absence of this person. The protagonist of the song expresses his anguish with verses such as: “There is no longer any reconciliation, today is a full stop, he left forever and did not fulfill his part. Yes, his departure hurts me, he left me a thousand wounds.”

Origin of the song ‘Partido en 2’ in cumbia

At the beginning of 2022, José Gómez Castelo, a Mexican composer, created the song ‘Partido en dos’ for his friend and fellow singer, Chuy Lizárraga. The melody became so popular that it quickly became one of the most requested at the regional music artist’s concerts.

Walter Chunga, the director and owner of La Única Tropical, had already heard songs from the grupero genre with the intention of adapting them—along with his friend and musical arranger, Milton Fiestas—to the style of Sechura’s orchestra. Previously, they had done the same with ‘Qué adiós’, by the Banda Clave Nueva, and ‘Ya no te searché’, by the Arrolladora Banda El Limón.

When Walter and Milton finalized the arrangements to record their new production, they were sure that ‘Partido en dos’ had to be performed by the voice of Carlos Burgos, the singer who has been with the Chunga Anton family since before 2007.
