New Delhi. Elon Musk-owned X Corp has started adding support for audio and video calls to take on Meta-owned WhatsApp.
Many X users received a notification when opening the social media app that read, “Audio and video calls are here.”
There’s also a new “Enable audio and video calling” toggle in the app’s Settings. The Verge reports that you can “turn on the feature and then choose who you’re comfortable using it with.”
“Early version of video and audio calling on X,” Musk posted.
X asked users with a cryptic post, “Are you ready for…?”
The new feature allows audio and video calls to everyone in your address book, people you follow, and verified users.
X CEO Linda Yaccarino confirmed last month that video calls would be coming to the platform as part of the transition to an “everything app.” The X CEO said that soon, “you will be able to make video chat calls to anyone on the platform without giving your phone number”.
Musk always wanted Twitter to become “one app” like China’s WeChat. X will soon launch two new paid premium tiers and one of those tiers with ads will cost less than the current $8 per month. The second tier will be more expensive, the billionaire said, which will remove all ads.
The X owner posted, “Two new tiers of X Premium subscriptions will be launching soon. One is low cost with all the features but no ads, and the other is more expensive but no ads.”
