Australia topped the WTC points table with 75.56 percent percentage points. India is second with 58.93 percentage points. Sri Lanka is third with 53.33 percentage points. South Africa, who lost the Test series to Australia, are fourth with 48.72 percentage points. All four teams are still in the WTC final race.
Let’s see what are the chances of which team will reach the final..
Australia: Had the Aussies won the Test series against South Africa by 3-0, the team would have secured the WTC final berth regardless of the Border Gavaskar Trophy result. But as the last test ended in a draw.. Australia should end at least one match in the test series with India as a draw. Then at least 61.40 percentage points would place that team better than Sri Lanka.
A 4-0 win in the Border Gavaskar Trophy will see Australia top 184 points, 80.07 pct. If they lose 0-4, the team’s PCT will drop to 59.64.
India: South Africa’s 0-2 loss to Australia in the Test series is a rallying point for India. India won the Test series against Bangladesh 2-0 in December to move up to the second position in the WTC points table. But India (58.93) is still under threat from Sri Lanka. A 3-1 win over Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy will see India qualify for the final with a PCT of 61.92. A 2-2 draw would put them ahead of South Africa with 56.4 pct. But Sri Lanka will have to lose the Test series against New Zealand.
If India beat Australia 4-0, they will achieve a best PCT of 67.43. A 0-4 loss would see Team India’s PCT drop to 45.4.
South Africa:
South Africa, who lost the Test series to Australia, can achieve a PCT of 55.55 if they win the Test series against the West Indies by 2-0. But even if India wins two of the last four Tests, South Africa’s path to the final will be closed.
Sri Lanka: The Sri Lankan team will tour New Zealand in the month of March. A win in the upcoming two-Test series against the Kiwis will take Sri Lanka to 61.11 pct. But if India wins against Aussies by 3-1, 3-0, 4-0, Sri Lanka will not reach the final. If the Border Gavaskar Trophy ends in a 2-2 draw, Sri Lanka will join Australia in the final. If New Zealand loses both the Tests, Sri Lanka’s PCT will drop to 44.44.
If India, South Africa and Sri Lanka lose all their next matches, England and West Indies have a chance to reach the WTC final.
