Melbourne: Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina and Belarus’ Sabalenka advance to the Australian Open tennis women’s singles final.
22nd seed and Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan played against 24th seed and two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azaranga of Belarus in the women’s singles semi-final on the 11th day of the series in Melbourne, Australia yesterday.
Elena Rybakina advanced to the final with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win in the match that lasted one hour and 41 minutes. This is the first time that Elena Rybakina has reached the final at the Australian Open. Never got past the 3rd round maximum before. Elena Rybakina will face fifth seed Sabalenka of Belarus in tomorrow’s (28th) final.
Sabalenka faced Poland’s Magda Linet in the semi-finals. Sabalenka won the match 7-6 (7-1), 6-2. This is the first time the 24-year-old Sabalenka has qualified for a Grand Slam final. He has previously reached the semi-finals once at Wimbledon and twice at the US Open.
