Melbourne: Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic advanced to the Australian Open men’s singles final.
On the 12th day of the series in Melbourne, Australia, 3rd seed Stephanos Tsitsipas of Greece met 18th seed Karen Kachanov of Russia in a men’s singles semi-final match yesterday.
Stephanos Tsitsipas won the match 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 and advanced to the finals in this match which lasted for 3 hours and 21 minutes.
Stefanos Tsitsipas has reached the Australian Open final at his 4th attempt. Stefanos Tsitsipas had semi-final exits in 2019, 2021 and 2022. This is the 2nd time that Stefanos Tsitsipas has reached the final of a Grand Slam series. In 2021, he played in the final round of the French Open. He then lost the title to Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
Interestingly, the 24-year-old Stefanos Tsitsipas will face Novak Djokovic in the current Australian Open final as well. Nine-time champion Novak Djokovic defeated 35th-ranked American Tommy Ball in straight sets 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 in the semi-finals.
The match was completed in 2 hours and 20 minutes. Stefanos Tsitsipas will play Novak Djokovic in the final tomorrow (29th). If Stefanos Tsitsipas wins the title, he will take the top spot in the tennis rankings.
